Year 7-8

Introduction

The Year 7 Visual Arts course follows the Board of Studies syllabus. Students will learn about artist models as well as historical and current art theories. Armed with this information, they will be able to critically analyse the visual world around them.

Students will reflect on different art periods, enabling them to evaluate and break down the ideas and beliefs of individual artists and periods that created trends of influential artists. Ideas of individual artists are important as outside opinions can often influence interpretations of artworks. We will teach students to critically evaluate and consider other world views but also to sift and chew over opinions and to pull apart sources of information available on the Internet. For example, reading an art critic’s editorial or an art curator’s column.

Our aim is to arm students with a critical mind that enables them to find their own voice through their art and interpretive writings.
